Principal Updates

From the Principal

RMA Families,

We hope everyone enjoyed their Spring Break! We are gearing up for our final push to the end of year.

We have several upcoming events so make sure to keep check of our school calendar and website for details.

A huge shout out to Mrs. Rudd and her crew of helpers for all of the hours they put in helping to transform the gym into a Paris themed getaway for our Prom and Morp. We hope everyone attending has a fun and safe night.

Special thanks to our RMA PTT for another visit from the Sunshine cart and ladies! Our staff appreciates the treats.

Mr. Dragon and one of his FIRST robotics team members Harrison Saenz, showcased the team’s robot to one of our 1st grade classes. The students enjoyed seeing the robot in action! Congratulations to the FIRST robotics team for winning the Rookie All Star Award at the NC State robotics competition this past weekend!

RMA Staff Member Spotlight of the Week

Mrs. Leslie Hannon

Years at RMA: 5 years at River Mill

Years in education: 16 years teaching

Favorite thing about RMA: Our students!!  Out of all the thousands of students I've ever taught in all my years, River Mill students show the most interest and enthusiasm for learning Spanish!  Their acceptance of someone speaking a different language and a different culture is amazing!   Just this week alone, I had students tell me how they used what they learned in Spanish class during spring break.  A first grader showed me a video of himself dancing "Merengue" in the Dominican Republic, just like we learned in class.  A second grader brought me back a flag bandana just like the flag we studied in class, and my middle school students danced "Salsa" for MORP in the Cuban style of "La Rueda Casino" that River Mill's own, Ms. Cruz our guest dance instructor shared with us in class this week.

Family: I am married to my husband Patrick Hannon.  We have a 24-year-old daughter named Caroline, and a 21-year-old daughter named Charlotte who is married to our son-in-law Carlos Bardales.  We have one granddaughter, Marina Bardales, who just turned two.  I live on a tiny hobby farm in Browns Summit, NC with my donkey, two goats, dozens of chickens and ducks, 6 dogs, and a cat.

Fun fact: I have been a Registered Dental Hygienist for 24 years (my summer job).

Originally from: I am completely "home grown" from Greensboro, NC where I have lived practically my entire life.

Mrs. Hannon teaches our elementary and middle school students Spanish and works with our ESL students.

Proud to be Jaguars,
Mr. Dishmon, Mr. O'Malley and Mrs. Bradshaw
