Expectations

Welcome to Mr. H.’s 4th grade class! I am so excited for another great year at River Mill Academy. I am so happy to be working with your child this year.

Homework

Students will have nightly homework and will be expected to write down their homework assignments daily. Most homework is incomplete classwork – I try to give students at least 20 minutes a day to work on their incomplete work to reduce homework time at home. I am highly aware this is going to be a change from previous years’ homework policies but with proper support from you as well as myself – the transition will go smoothly! Weekly work will be sent home in Friday folders, in which some items will need to be signed and returned to class the following Monday. Homework assignments must be turned in on the day they are due, all homework will be graded daily. Ten points will be deducted from the assignment each day it is late. After three days, the assignment will no longer be accepted, and the student will automatically receive a zero for the assignment per school policy.

Classroom Management

In 4th grade, we will be doing a daily tally system. Students who do not receive a tally for the week will get a prize from the classroom – those who are able to make it the entire 9 weeks will get a special grade level reward (ex: reward pizza party at lunch with students across the grade level) Students who choose not to follow class/school rules will receive a tally next to their name. Tallies are equal to a certain number of laps at recess. If students receive up to four tallies in a day – the student will walk laps and will have silent lunch. Five tallies will result in a phone call home and a warning of discipline referral to administration.

Communication

Communication is very important for a successful year! I will update my classroom webpage weekly for important information to keep the lines of communication open as well as send letters home when needed. I am available after school from 3:00-3:30 as well as during specials throughout the week, if you have any questions/concerns please feel free to contact me through any of the following ways:
