REQUIRED IMMUNIZATIONS

7TH AND 12TH GRADE

In addition to the childhood vaccines required for enrollment in Kindergarten, seventh grade students must have received the Meningococcal vaccine and twelfth grade students must have received a booster dose. In compliance with North Carolina law, parents/guardian must present certification of immunizations on the first day of school entry. If documentation is not presented, parents and/or guardians have 30 calendar days to provide documentation or the student shall be excluded from school until proof is presented.

Concussion Protocol

The State of North Carolina’s Return to Learn and Return to Play safety protocols are designed to support students recovering from concussions and ensure a safe transition back to academic and physical activities. Following a concussion, students may gradually return to the classroom with appropriate academic accommodations based on their symptoms and recovery progress. Participation in athletics and physical activity will follow a step-by-step Return to Play process in accordance with North Carolina state guidelines and medical recommendations. Student safety remains our highest priority, and all concussion protocols will be followed to promote a healthy and successful recovery. Below you will find the required documentation for students who have been suspected to or been diagnosed with a concussion.

Inclement Weather Announcements

During extremely bad weather it may become necessary to cancel school, delay the opening, or close school early. The decision to cancel school or delay the opening will be made as early as possible. When the decision is made to close or delay school, parents/guardians and students are advised of that decision through the following television announcements:

  • TV - WFMY Channel 2 (CBS)
  • WGHP Channel 8 (Fox)
  • WTVD Channel 11 (ABC)
  • WXII Channel 12 (NBC)
  • News 14 Carolina

Parents and students are reminded not to call the TV stations and are asked not to call school officials, as such calls tie up telephone lines and may delay the announcement.

A decision to close school early will be made with every effort to balance appropriate notification time for parents with road conditions and safety.

Parents are encouraged to keep their student(s) home if they feel the roads are unsafe for travel. Teenagers should be discouraged from driving to/from school during inclement weather.

In case of a closing or delay

  • Before-school care will not operate on delayed opening days
  • After-school care will not operate on emergency closing days
  • Athletic games and practices will be canceled if the school is closed or dismissed early
  • Extracurricular events or meetings will be canceled if the school is closed or dismissed early
  • The school building is not open to students during the times of delayed opening or early closing, nor is it open to students if school is canceled for the day.

Please refer to the Inclement Weather Plan in the Student/Parent Handbook
and on the Policies & Procedures webpage for complete information.
