Board of Directors

River Mill Academy is governed by a Board of Directors elected by the parents of currently enrolled students. The Board is responsible for the legal and financial obligations of the school. The Board sets the general direction and policy of the school but does not manage it on a daily basis.

Board meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month at 6:30 pm and are open to the public. Meetings are held in the Media Center.

Jason is self-employed in the construction industry. As a board member, he focuses on facilities, strong teachers, strong families, and student success. He and his wife have one child at River Mill Academy.

Jill is the Executive Assistant to the Dean of the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Law. A board member since 2016, she enjoys serving students, families, faculty, and staff. Jill has one daughter currently enrolled and another daughter who graduated in 2021.

Katy is a licensed hairdresser and student at UNC-Greensboro. She volunteers as a baseball and basketball coach. She has a son at River Mill Academy.

Debbie Carlson

Debbie has been an active volunteer since 1998 and previously served as treasurer for PTT and athletic boosters. Recently retired as Finance Manager, all four of her children graduated from RMA.

Michael is a Civil Engineer at Westcott, Small & Associates. He has served on Guilford County boards and is a parent of a 4th-grade son at RMA.

Alex is Lead IT Engineer with Roche Diagnostics. He and his wife have four daughters at RMA and volunteer with classroom and sporting activities.

Cathy Whitfield

Cathy retired from teaching after 30 years, with 15 at RMA. She is passionate about supporting students, families, faculty, and administration. Her son graduated in 2016.
