Welcome to Middle School Science!

I am very excited to be back at River Mill Academy this year! This is my third year at River Mill, though I have been working with middle school students for over 20 years serving as a science teacher as well as an assistant principal. I decided to return to the classroom as I missed the daily interaction with students and sharing my love of science to help students better understand the world around them.  I am looking forward to working with all of you this upcoming year!

The information below should help you get prepared for class and as well as give you some idea of what to expect. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

  • Composition notebook (college ruled preferred)
  • Folder or binder with Loose Leaf Paper (college ruled preferred)
  • Pens and pencils
  • Art Supplies (Markers, colored pencils, glue, scissors)
  • Flashdrive
  • Homework Planner
  • A simple function calculator (optional)

General Expectations:

  • Be here and be on time: We will do a lot of in-class activities which require students to be in class to truly process and grasp the concepts being taught.
  • Be prepared for class: Please have all materials for class each day including assignments.
  • Be in your seat: Each class will start with a warm-up that students should start on as soon as they enter class.
  • Be responsible:  Always pay attention in class and give 100%. Always ask questions if you need clarification or do not understand something. Complete all classwork, homework and projects and turn them in on time.Study your notes.Follow all Lab Safety Rules.
  • If you do all of the above, you will BE SUCCESSFUL!

Students will receive a class participation grade each week. Each student will be given 100 points at the beginning of the week. In order to keep 100 points, a student must follow all of the expectations listed above. 10 points will be deducted for each infraction. I will also utilize lunch detention and office referrals for multiple infractions.

Late Work: Students who are absent have 3 days to make up their assignments; otherwise, there is a
point deduction for each day an assignment is late.  On the third late day the grade will be a 0%. Students should check my webpage and the late folder in the classroom for make-up work.

Be sure to check out my webpage for
more information. Again, I look forward to working with you. If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.
