About Ms. McPherson

Hello everyone! My name is Amanda McPherson and I will be your 6th grade Science and 8th grade Math teacher. I graduated from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2017 with a degree in Middle School Education concentrating in Math and Science. This is my first year at River Mill Academy and I am ecstatic to be teaching here.

Outside of school, I love to be outside. This ranges from working in the yard to going to the beach. Also, I love spending time with my family any chance that I am able to get. I have a wonderful fiance, Shane. We are getting married October 2018, so there will be a name change next year. I have an adorable dog, Coco, a black and gray miniature schnauzer. I got Coco my freshman year in high school and she has never left my side. Coco loves going to the park and meeting friends and she despises when I make her run with me.

Being a teacher is one profession that I never saw myself as. It was a college professor at Alamance Community College that made me want to switch my major from pharmaceutical to teaching, making over $100,000 to a mere $35,000. However, teaching is not something you do for money, you do it for the students. I love teaching students to learn, but along the way, they will also teach me. I love getting to know students and know their interests, strengths, hobbies, and many more.

This is going to be an adventure and I hope you are as excited as I am!
