Welcome to 8th Grade Language Arts and 6th Grade Social Studies!

You can click the link to my TPT Class Fund Page! This helps us do fun escape rooms, station activities, and other resources that just take time to set up.

You can also click the Link to my Amazon Teacher Wishlist. Anything you purchase for our classroom is greatly appreciated! I will edit and update this list throughout the year based on class donations, projects, current readings, etc.

Thanks for all you do!

Supply Lists for All Classes. Each student should have:

  • Pencils - mechanical are best. If you bring standard pencils, please make sure to bring a handheld pencil sharpener.
  • Coloring utensils - crayons, colored pencils, and/or markers. Student's choice!
  • Folder or binder for handouts and other work.
  • Composition notebook for notes.
  • Highlighters (two or three different colors)
  • Glue sticks
  • Keep all loose materials in a pencil pouch

**Students may be asked to obtain project supplies throughout the year.**

If you’d like to donate any extra materials for classroom use, it would be much appreciated!

8th Grade Novels

I *highly* encourage each student to purchase their own copy of the novels we read because I teach and encourage annotating the text in the book.

I have approximately 25 copies of each book in a class set for those who cannot purchase the novel for their own personal use. If you use one of my copies, you will need sticky notes to use to annotate the text.

We will read (in this order) The Giver by Lois Lowry, The Outsiders by SE Hinton, and Harbor Me by Jacqueline Woodson. (Linked here to Amazon if that's helpful).

**We will start reading The Giver on Tuesday, September 7 (after Labor Day). The Outsiders we will begin tentatively in November and Harbor Me in mid-January. I will give definitive dates a month ahead of time once I have seen how much time we will need for certain activities and assignments.

We will read a fourth novel that will be student choice. I will provide students will a list to choose from a month beforehand to give plenty of time for them to choose and get the novel. We will spend about 9 weeks on each novel between reading, activities, essay writing, and multiple choice/EOG practice.

**Please remember to use the Power School Online Portal to check up-to-date student grades. If you need login information, please contact the front office. I always suggest that students also have the password so that they can check for missing work themselves.**
